So Put Another Dime In The Jukebox, Baby!

Well today is Sunday, I'll be having lunch with a really good friend of mine that I don't get to hang out with a lot anymore.  She's getting married in August and we both have kids, so family tends to take up the bulk of our time.  After that I may go to a bookstore or just veg on the couch and watch movies.  The best part, I can do whatever I want.  Thankfully though, my good friend Terri of Alexia's Books and Such... has agreed to stop on by and talk about some of her favorite summer songs.  Those songs that just make you think of hot sweaty days and lemonade.  Terri is always adding to my TBR pile and has even "dumped" some of her old book off with me, not that I'm complaining.  She is a great blogger and I would encourage you to go on over and give her a big hello and wish her a great summer.

Please don't tell Ryan, but I'm not really a big fan of summer. It's hot. It's humid. There are bugs. Did I mention that it's hot? I'm more of a spring kind of girl, with the cool breezes and everything reawakening after a long, cold winter.

But one thing that summer has over all the other months is great songs! None of the other seasons have so many great songs dedicated to them, so thought I'd highlight some of my favorites! So here they are, in no particular order, the songs that make summers bearable:

While the original version by The Lovin' Spoonful is good, Joe's version is my favorite! Not a very good video, but every time this song comes on the radio, I crank it up and sing along!

Think Bananarama is the ultimate Summer Girl Group! Love them!

A new addition to my Summer Playlist, but you can't beat Kid Rock!

Summer means that schools out! Woot! Another song I crank up when it comes on the radio!

While it doesn't technically have summer in the title, I don't think that anyone would disagree that this is the ultimate Ode to Summer, what's more summer-y than baseball?

There are so many other great summer songs out there, but I didn't want to go crazy. But what would summer be without "Summer Nights" from Grease, or Mungo Jerry's "In The Summertime"? And I love Bryan Adams "Summer of '69"!

Curious to find out your favorite summer songs that I might have missed - care to share?

"So put another dime in the jukebox baby." is what immediately popped into my mind when I read the blog title. :D

Ryan, I hope you are having some great fun relaxing and doing what YOU want.

Fantastic choices of songs! They are great. Bryan Adams is one that I loved to listen to, and recently I noticed that he will be playing at two local theaters. I was tempted to purchase a ticket but I did not.

Hi Ryan, Hi Alexia.

I love your choices Alexia - some more than others, Bananarama is a particular favourite.

You have however missed one of my all time summer favs- Summer Loving from Grease. Ah it brings back such sweet memories of my own holiday romance.

Bookmagic - Love Bananarama! Venus is another one that I crank up loud whenever it comes on the radio!

ibeeeg - Would love to see Bryan in concert! He has so many great songs, and probably puts on a great show. I need to check if he's playing anywhere nearby!

Petty - You had a holiday romance? Sweet! Tell me more, tell me more! ;)

Aisle B - Joan Jett was freakin awesome! Loved her! Sorry about the earworm, but I've had 'In The Summertime' stuck in my head ever since I wrote this post. That's the trouble with summer songs...they never want to leave you alone! *L*

Michelle - Thanks! They help me survive the heat of summer and make it bearable! :)

These are all great summery picks! I'm not into Kid Rock either but a song that samples Sweet Home Alabama and Werewolves of London can't help but be awesome :)

Last summer I played California Girls by Katy Perry repeatedly.

StephanieD - True! Sweet Home Alabama is such a classic song, and Werewolves of London? Makes me howl every time! *L*

Awesome songs!!!!

I think Kid Rock is one of my FAAAVVS! It sooo reminds me of when I was younger and enjoying summer with out a worry in the world. Oh the days. Yeah, don't want to talk about them either. ;D lol

Um, we have to add the Beach Boys here to the list!

Melissa - The Beach Boys are the boys of summer, aren't they? :)

I vote for The Cult. Although their lyrics aren't about summer, pretty much any song by The Cult (She Sells Sanctuary, Fire Woman, Love Removal Machine, etc.) makes me think of hot weather and long days of sun.

Oh some great oldies. My fave oldies are Wicked Game by Chris Isaak and Another Brink in the Wall by Pink Floyd. The radio used to play those EVERY summer!

I love summer and look forward to it coming each year!! I loved the songs you picked. For some reason when Your Love by The Outfield comes on the radio that makes me think of the summer of 1986 and seeing them at my local fair!!

I must say that Terri is terrific for doing this post. Having her and the others do guest posts was a great relieve to me as I left for a few days.

I love the Bananarama song, but I don't see how we can have a post about great summer music without "Summertime" by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. Come on guys, Will Smith rocks.

One of the others songs that always reminds me of summer is "Dip Into My Ride" by Lighter Shade of Brown.

I asked my roomate what he though and two of his favorites were "Summer Girls" by Dino and "Summer Girls" by LFO. Though the songs have the same name, I love the Dino song and could do without the LFO one.

I love that song, "Cruel Summer!" I always think of the song "Hot in the City" when it comes to summer and "Dancing in the Streets", the (was it Van Halen, David Lee Roth?) version. I'm working from memory here so you know...oldness setting in. LOL!

I'm with you, Terri. Since I've lived in the south for almost 20 years, I don't have the fondness for summer that I used to and we don't have much of a spring here either. We go from winter cold to summer heat, with barely a transition. I much prefer winter. Call me crazy!
