"My Heart's In The Highlands" by Robert Burns

In honor of National Poetry Month, I though I would share one of my favorite poems by my favorite poet, Robert Burns.  There is something about this one that makes me want to get on a plane and visit those Highlands.

"My Heart's In The Highlands"

Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North,
The birth-place of Valour, the country of Worth;
Wherever I wander, wherever I rove,
The hills of the Highlands for ever I love.

My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here;
My heart's in the Highlands a-chasing the deer;
A-chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe,
My heart's in the Highlands wherever I go.

Farewell to the mountains high covered with snow;
Farewell to the straths and green valleys below;
Farewell to the forests and wild-hanging woods;
Farewell to the torrents and loud-pouring floods.

My heart's in the Highlands, my heart is not here;
My heart's in the Highlands a-chasing the deer;
A-chasing the wild-deer, and following the roe,
My heart's in the Highlands wherever I go.

I like Robert Burns. I need to remember to read some poetry this month. I have a lot but don't read as much as I would like

I can almost see myself there, in the Highlands, as he describes the place he loves.

Thanks for sharing this.
