Start of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics

Today marked the begining of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and I couldn't be more excited.  I have been an Olympics junkie since I was a kid and I still feel like  I'm my son's age when I sit down in front of the TV and watch some of the best atheletes in the world compete in some amazing sports.

Sadly with the death of Georgian luger, Nodar Kumaritashvili, during a training run today, they are getting off to a depressing start but I know the rest of the athletes will, in part, dedicate their own competitions to the memory of a young man who paid the ultimate price to fullfill his dreams.

I'm getting ready to watch the opening ceremony with my son and hopefully I will get to watch a few games of curling, don't ask.  So for the next 16 days I will be spending all my free time, watching some of the best athletes in the world go for their dreams and hopefully my son will learn that reagardless of where the athletes place, it's the journey and dedication that counts most.

Besides, the mascots this year are awfully cute.

Sumi: a thunderbird that enjoys alpine skiing in Whistler

Quatchi: a Sasquatch, and a cute one at that

Miga: a cute, huggable, dance-crazy, flying sea bear

  3. I'm watching the opening ceremonies now. I'm blissfully kid and husband free tonight...so darn peaceful! LOL! It is so sad about the death of Nodar. I hope there are no further tragedies this games. I am SO looking forward to figure skating and Apolo is my idol (one of them anyway) so I will definitely be watching the speed skating. Have fun watching with Aidan!

You probably noticed that Mel and I both did not to FFC this week. Shame on me, I know. I've been so busy and I have been seriously lacking in motivation lately. I think it's all this cold weather and snow this year. We are usually on track with warming up to spring in Feb. here in Tennessee, but this year it's a bad winter. I feel like I'm in Michigan again where I used to experience Seasonal Effective disorder. Ha Ha!

Happy V Day and have a great weekend!

  5. I like the winter sports much better than the summer. I just hope NBC does a good job with coverage. Sometimes I feel like I never get to see the stuff I want. Have fun with curling

  7. I'm not big on the Olympics, but do love curling. We have quite a few Canadian friends and the last time my husband was up there, he got to watch one of them play curling (curl?). He said it was even more fun in person.

  9. ooh me too me too! Kiddo and I watched the opening ceremony and we've been battling over the tv ever since - he's all about the hockey, but I want to see other events as well. Curling will be another battle - he thinks it is stupid but I love it. :)

  10. I love watching the Olympics. We watched the opening ceremony, but it got too late for Amber. She made it through the parade of nations, but then took herself off to bed.
