Mailbox Monday for 1/31/11


Mailbox Monday is a weekly meme created by Marcia at The Printed Page and is being hosted all this month by Rose City Reader.


I received an ARC of The Survivor by Sean Slater for participating in the Mystery & Suspense Challenge 2011, which is hosted by Carolyn of Book Chick City.


I received a hardcover of Afterlives of the Rich and Famous by Sylvia Browne for an upcoming TLC Book Tour.




I stopped in the Friends of the Library Book Store and bought a trade paperback of Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, a trade paperback of The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters, and a hardcover of Laced by Carol Higgins Clark.  They were only $1 a piece.  The best part was that they were in almost new condition.



My roommate and his mom went to the flea market and came back with two records for me, both from The Jets.  He got their first album which is self titled and a record single of "Private Number."

    What a fun mailbox this week! I've got one record that I've saved all these years... sadly, I don't have a record player. :) I need to find someone who can record it to cd for me so I can actually listen to it, then hang it up somewhere.

    Great Friends of the Library finds. I love getting books that way!

    I'm planning to read Never Let Me Go and The Little Stranger this year. Also, I have not thought about The Jets in years, but I used to love them!

    Never Let Me Go is very good. The Little Stranger is the one Waters book that I have not liked so far. enjoy your reads!

    Love Sylvia Browne! I watched her every time she was on Montel but I've never tried any of her books. I have Never Let me Go and The Little Stranger on my WL. Happy reading!

    I believe that I have the Ishiguro and Waters books in my shelves. I grabbed them both at a library sale for a 1.00!! Enjoy your new reads!

    The cover of Survivor - Wow, Friday the 13th, much?

    I'm on the fence about reading Never Let Me Go. I read Remains of the Day a couple of years ago and really didn't like Ishiguro's writing at all. Never rated him. Yet everyone seems to absolutely adore the film adaptation with Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson.

    When I saw the trailer for the new film adaptation of Never Let Me Go, I was kind of intrigued. My mother's just finished the book and had a very similar reaction to it as I had to Remains of the Day. I don't know what it is. :S
