One Of My Childhood Heroes Passed Away Today
I was saddened to learn when I got home today that one of my favorite television heroes passes away today. Fess Parker, who plaed Davy Crockett in numerous Disney movies and Daniel Boone for the NBC series of the same name, passed away today at the age of 85.
You may also remember him as the dad in Old Yeller or the cult classic, Them! about rampaging ants, which I actually have on my DVR right now.
He brought me hours of entertainment and adventure and I'm thankful to him for it.

I did not know. So many actors are dying. :(
ReplyDeleteYes, many of my SCI FI actors from the 1950's have passed away, Richard Carlson, Jeff Morrow, John Agar, Rex Reason, Julie Adam's, Joan Taylor, and many more! They were like family., but we ALL must die one day!!
DeleteNicholas K.
He lived here in my area so the local news is all abuzz about his death. He was in the process of getting another hotel built so everyone is wondering what will happen to the space.... It really feels like the end of an era.
ReplyDeleteLots of famous people have been dying lately--Corey Haim, that guy from Airplane...
ReplyDeleteI LOVED the old Davy Crockett movies. In fact, the theme song was one of the first pieces of "real music" that I learned on the piano as a kid. I still know all the words to it ...
ReplyDeleteOMG, I didn't know about this! It seems that everyday, some actor I so thoroughly enjoy is passing on!
ReplyDeleteSoon there will be none left that speak to that time in my life...
Yes...sad most of my Childhood heroes are gone, from George Reeves to Guy Williams( Zorro)
DeleteAWWWW May he rest in Peace!
ReplyDeleteI think it feels like we are losing a lot of people too.
ReplyDeleteAnother sad passing.... a nice Tribute Ryan.
(Stop by the Meanderings today..... you are a winner....)
Lots of loss this last couple of weeks. I never watched any of his movies but glad you got enjoyment!
ReplyDeleteI heard about this. :( 2010's turning out to be such a sad year. Lots of passings.
ReplyDeleteNice tribute, Ryan. It's always especially sad when a childhood hero goes.
Soon as I heard he was gone, I thought of you and how you were sharing the old Davy Crockitt shows with Aiden. Were you ever able to find him a coonskin cap?
ReplyDeleteVery nice tribute!
Another amazing actor passing on us. :( He was awesome on the screen. I had not realized he had passed on until I saw this post. Thank you for sharing this with me.
