I loved the descriptiveness - you could almost picture the sights and smell the smells. I didn't like the vagueness of the central idea and the ending that sort of just petered out with no real resolution.Julie https://www.blogger.com/profile/01670155947411449802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8144784325334181261.post-17198025118779704352011-09-08T16:24:54.445-05:002011-09-08T16:24:54.445-05:00Darn, I'm sorry this one disappointed you Ryan...Darn, I'm sorry this one disappointed you Ryan. I happened to love the characters and I found them more alluring being as shadowy as they were, my problem was the narrative, I found it lost it's fluency at times.
Thanks for the great review.
DebThe Reading Frenzyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17908245479700999445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8144784325334181261.post-23514787192944446252011-09-05T20:03:03.421-05:002011-09-05T20:03:03.421-05:00It's a shame when a book doesn't live up t...It's a shame when a book doesn't live up to your expectations. I agree that characterization is important and when it falls flat, it can ruin the whole book for a reader. I'm glad that you wrote such an honest review. And no, I have never heard of a child that is perfectly behaved at all times. Mine surely are not! I have to say as a parent and as a teacher, I agree that there is no such thing as a perfect child, although I have to say when kids are one on one with an adult they seem to be a little better behaved. Interesting premise and that is awesome that the author was able to nail the settings so well that you could feel them!Jill Buckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18296890779922143900noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8144784325334181261.post-36935673437808424932011-09-03T21:51:47.237-05:002011-09-03T21:51:47.237-05:00The synopsis on this one just never really grabbed...The synopsis on this one just never really grabbed me, and after reading your review, I think I'll just pass.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8144784325334181261.post-29642063802508440862011-09-03T12:38:40.943-05:002011-09-03T12:38:40.943-05:00Your reviews always make me laugh and think about ...Your reviews always make me laugh and think about things...since when do jellyfish compare to stars??? the setting does sound fantastic to me and I would LOVE to visit this country myself, but if those characters don't work there's not much else you can do but cry!!
